What is Theatre-in-Education?

When CragRats first began delivering Theatre-in-Education (TIE) in 1989, it was a radical and largely unknown concept. How does it work?

Attempting to change young people's minds by the art of persuasion alone can be at times, a difficult task, as any parent or teacher will confirm. In the process it provides the deep-learning experience that is vital if the message is to be retained.

Theatre-In-Education is especially effective as it enables the benefit of hindsight; when individuals are faced with similar situations in real-life they are already equipped with the knowledge and have the tools to overcome these barriers. Professional actors use challenging and highly charged theatre to simulate authentic real-life scenarios, featuring familiar situations and easily recognisable characters. Theatre-In-Education programmes include workshops that establish coping strategies for each individual, ensuring they are better informed and better prepared.
