An engrossing ‘Shipwrecked’ themed challenge with the focus on sustainability and fair-trade
The year is 2027 and the scientists got it wrong! The worst has happened far quicker than predicted. Global warming, pollution and a lack of sustainable development have led the world to the very brink of survival. Marooned on a tiny group of islands with minimal resources, your students are challenged to rebuild their society and sustain their communities.
Learning points
For students to:
Which teams will make the most of their resources?
WWorking in groups of eight, the students create their own sustainable island communities - beginning with essentials such as building shelter and identifying fresh water and food sources. Next come power supplies, transportation, entertainment, trade links and industry – including creating a tourist attraction! The students will have the chance to vote for which island they would choose to inhabit. The winner is the team that attracts the most inhabitants to their island. The winners are entered into our valuable prize draw!
‘Earth’ is a popular and captivating programme that combines Enterprise, Geography, Fairtrade, Environment, Citizenship and team challenges. The day is led by CragRats tutors. The teacher’s role is to act as a facilitator. You don’t need to be an expert to take part, and you’ll also have some fun! On successful completion and for a small additional fee, students receive a certificate accredited by City & Guilds.
