Summary

An action-packed programme guaranteed to stimulate students' interest in all things political

In this popular, competitive and highly absorbing programme, students form their own political parties. They create a real election campaign, hold a ballot and gain a new understanding of the political process – all in the course of one day! We can also invite your local MP along to the day, giving your students a real insight into Westminster.

Learning points
For students to:

  • Actively develop their skills in creativity, communication and presentation
  • Learn key elements of Citizenship studies
  • Build confidence to apply enterprise learning to other subjects in the curriculum
  • Produce quality work both as individuals and as part of a team

How It Works

Students are divided into teams. Each team forms its own political party, together with a party name, logo, slogan and policy manifesto. Next they devise a campaign including creating a party political broadcast/TV ad and writing a persuasive speech.

In the powerful finale students present their new party to the ‘voters’ and deliver their speeches. The day culminates with a nail-biting ballot and the election winners are revealed. The winners enter our valuable free prize draw! This rewarding and well structured programme incorporates a powerful blend of practical theory and dynamic workshops. It is invariably well-received by students and teachers alike. Great for school councils.

The day is led by CragRats tutors. The teacher’s role is to act as a facilitator. You don’t need to be a political expert to take part, and you’ll also have some fun! On successful completion and for a small additional fee, students receive a certificate accredited by City & Guilds.
